Work starts on or about April 20 following completion of PSE&G utility upgrades

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ — Milling and paving will begin on or about April 20, 2026, on six township roadways that were affected by recent PSE&G utility work. The Township will restore and resurface the following streets:

SPRING 2026 VETERAN STREET RECOGNITIONS IN SOUTH BRUNSWICK

South Brunswick Township, NJ (April 15) – This spring, South Brunswick Township will recognize local veterans for their service through the Veterans Recognition Street Naming Initiative.  The Township of South Brunswick’s Veteran Street Sign Program allows Township residents who were Wartime Veterans to be honored by adding their name on a secondary street sign to an existing municipal road.

By adding the names of local Wartime Veterans to public street signs, the Township seeks to promote public awareness of these individuals while showing appreciation for their outstanding contributions and service to our Country as members of the United States Armed Forces.

Eligible military candidates for this honor include honorably discharged Veterans having served in Military Departments as defined under the Department of Defense, which include the Departments of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.  Wartime Veterans are individuals who served in the active military forces during a period of armed conflict or who received armed forces expeditionary or other campaign service medals during an emergency condition, including those who died in the line of duty in the active military forces.

“This program is a meaningful way for our community to recognize and remember the brave men and women who have served our country,” said Mayor Charlie Carley.  “By honoring these veterans with street dedications, we ensure their legacy lives on and remains visible to future generations.”

This spring, the following dedications will be held:

  • Edmund M. Mastandino – May 9th at 11:00 AM, at the intersection of Cambridge Road and Winant Road.
  • Salvatore A. DiMattina – May 16th at 11:00 AM, at the intersection of Kingsley Road and Berwick Road.
  • Theodore W. Lounsbury, Jr. – May 30th at 1:00 PM, at the intersection of Ridge Road and Griggs Drive.
  • Stephen Julius Kish – June 13th at 11:00 AM, at the intersection of Georges Road and Stanley Ave.

SOUTH BRUNSWICK PREPARES FOR ROADWAY IMPROVEMENTS ON RHODE HALL ROAD AND ROUTE 522

South Brunswick Township, NJ (March 17) – South Brunswick Township is preparing for roadway improvements on two major corridors serving the community as part of the County’s 2026 resurfacing program.

The planned improvements include milling and paving portions of:

  • Rhode Hall Road (CR 535) – from Cranbury–South River Road to Colletti Court
  • Route 522 (CR 522) – from Georges Road to Kingston Lane

These projects will help provide a smoother driving surface and improve roadway conditions for residents, commuters, school transportation, and local businesses that rely on these heavily traveled routes.

In preparation for the resurfacing work, the South Brunswick Utilities Department will review sanitary sewer manholes and water valve boxes located within these roadways to ensure they are properly aligned with the pavement surface before paving begins. This step helps ensure the final roadway surface is safe and level for motorists.

Township officials will coordinate with Middlesex County as the project moves forward and will share updates with residents once construction timelines are confirmed.

During the work period, motorists may experience temporary lane closures, construction activity, and minor traffic delays in these areas. Residents are encouraged to plan accordingly and drive cautiously near work zones.

South Brunswick Township remains committed to maintaining safe and reliable infrastructure and appreciates residents’ patience while these roadway improvements are completed.

Residents can stay informed about Township news and projects by visiting the Township website and following official Township communication channels.

MAYOR CARLEY ISSUES STATEMENT HONORING FORMER MAYOR CAROLYN MCCALLUM

South Brunswick Township, NJ (January 27) – The following statement was issued by Mayor Charlie Carley as he asked that flags be flown at half-staff to honor the memory of former Mayor Carolyn McCallum:

South Brunswick has lost a trailblazer and a dedicated public servant with the passing of former Mayor Carolyn McCallum. As the township’s first female mayor, she paved the way for future generations of women in local government with grace, intelligence, and commitment to the community she loved for over six decades.

Mayor McCallum’s public life was defined by service. Before taking the gavel as Mayor in 1978, she served on the South Brunswick Board of Education in the 1960s, championing the needs of students and families during an era of growth for the township.

Beyond her political legacy, Mayor McCallum was a cherished educator. An English teacher and librarian, she understood the power of stories. She meticulously collected news clippings and photographs, preserving South Brunswick’s past for its future; much of her collection now resides in the Public Library’s history room, a lasting gift to our town.

Mayor McCallum once said of South Brunswick, “I have such a commitment to this town. I love it.” That love of this place and its people informed the decisions she made and the lessons she taught. She leaves behind a town that is better, stronger, and more connected because of her life’s work.

We extend our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones.
