You don’t need to take this clinic to coach.  However, volunteer coaches who successfully complete the clinic are protected from lawsuits under the “Little League Law.”

According to the “Little League Law” you only need to attend a “safety program” such as the Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic once in your life.  If you take the Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic, your attendance is permanently recorded by the Rutgers Youth Sports Research Council (YSRC).  Taking the clinic will protect you under the “Little League Law” for every sport you coach as a volunteer.

To see if you are in the data base contact the Rutgers Sports Research Council –  (848) 932-7178;  ysrc@kines.rutgers.edu

The clinic is 3 hours long.  According to the “Little League Law,” you must attend all 3 hours to have successfully completed the course (there is not a test at the end). Please do not be late or you will be turned away (they are VERY strict about this)

The purpose of the Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. clinic is to provide volunteer coaches with the minimum knowledge required to conduct safe practices and competitions for young adults. “Certification” is for attendance only, and does not reflect, nor imply, that coaches who have attended the clinic have attained specific levels of proficiency or competence.

The course is given in South Brunswick 3 times a year and usually before a sports season is about to begin (March, August/September and November/December).  It’s held at the Community Center at Woodlot Park (124 New Road)

It’s free if you are a resident of South Brunswick or are coaching one of our teams. If you are a non – resident coaching a South Brunswick program, please contact Rob at rmessina1@sbtnj.net so you do not get charged the non – resident rate. For non – residents not coaching in South Brunswick, there is a charge.
